Most Hollywood funded British blockbusters have an average budget of $65 million not including the additional average of $35 million, making an average £100 million for a Hollywood funded British blockbuster

4) Joe Stephenson tried to secure funding from organisations that help low-budget filmmakers. What is the BFI Film Fund and how does it contribute to the British film industry? 

The BFI (British Film Institution) is a cultural charity set up by the government to help fund low budget filmmakers. The BFI is funded through the national lottery.

5) Why do you think Chicken failed to secure funding from the BFI Film Fund?
The BFI may have thought that the plot of the movie was far too peculiar to actually be successful with audiences.


Production


1) What difficulties did the film run into during production?
Since a large majority of Chicken was filmed in external locations there were many natural obstacles getting in the way of filming e.g. Weather, due to unpredictable weather poor sound and lighting were a serious concern throughout the filming of the film.

2) How many days did the film take to shoot?
It took Joe Stephenson 19 days to film Chicken

3) What scenes were particularly difficult for Joe Stephenson to film?
Most scenes including the two chickens shy and confident, while shy was far easier for to film, the other chicken, confident, was much harder to work in comparison.

Distribution

1) Why did the film fail to secure a distribution deal when first made in 2014?

Joe Stephenson found it difficult to find a distributor to distribute Chicken to an audience,  This is mainly due to that fact that Chicken was a privately funded movie that did not have a well-known studio behind the creation of the movie. This factor would have made Chicken look like a movie that had no real chance of being profitable at all.

Chicken has won multiple awards from numerous film festivals all around the world, but the three most significant festivals Chicken had won was

  • Giffoni Film Festival 
  • New Hampshire Film Festival
  • Edinburgh film festival

Chicken was released in May 2015 (according to IMDB) or May 2016 according to media A levels

5) Why do you think film subscription service MUBI chose the film to feature on the service?
MUBI chose to feature Chicken after the critical acclaim Chicken had internationally. This critical acclaim was a selling point of MUBI to feature Chicken on their services.

6) Why was Film4 a good choice to give the film its UK television premiere?  
Film4 is a well-known broadcaster that reaches a large audience, not only this but Film4 is well known to not only show blockbuster films but to also show more arthouse films.

7) When will the film be released on iTunes and other video-on-demand services in the USA and Canada?
The release date is set to be in January 2018 

Promotion
1) What does the trailer suggest regarding genre and the potential audience pleasures of Chicken?
The initial trailer shows the audience that the movie is a drama with a sense of darker tones. Judging by the tones given by the trailer and the atmosphere the trailer tries to give off the movie would attract more middle-class audiences and or high brow audiences that fit a niche audience. This evident due to the narrative the trailer portrays.

2) What synergy can you find between the trailer and other traditional marketing methods such as the film poster?
The trailer uses quotes from different critics and festivals

3) Why are reviews from industry figures such as Mark Kermode so important to a film's success?
Mark Kermode is an important figure when it comes to art house films as he is a well known and respected movie critic, quiet often when he recommends a movie, Mark Kermode's audience watch the movie he's recommend, resulting in a larger audience for Chicken.

4) How does the Chicken Twitter account create and maintain interest in the film?
Social media is a wildly powerful medium used when promoting an audience, a large majority of Chickens audience are middle aged young adults, this age demographic is also very active on social media, making this a popular form of advertising.

5) Who does the Twitter account re-tweet? How does this help to promote the film?
The Chicken twitter page tends to re tweet the tweets of famous and influential people who have watched and promoted the movie, this increases the chance of Chicken gaining a bigger audience.

6) How does the Chicken Facebook page use images and video content to promote the film?
The chicken Facebook page does almost the exact the same thing as their twitter page, only difference is that Chicken tends to promote themselves by continuously posting different images and videos of their critical acclaim.

7) What pages are liked by the Chicken Facebook page? What does this tell you about the film and potential target audience? 
Chickens Facebook page are like by major niche film groups and reviewers showing it's critical success

Celebrities such as Stephen Frears, Karen Gillian and Noel Clark
