Film Poster Analysis

Blade Runner:

From what the poster is portraying, I believe that Blade Runner (1982) is a Science Fiction movie due to many things. First, the art style resembles that of the Star Wars franchise, a trilogy that came out at around the same time period (Star Wars the Return of the Jedi had come out at 1983, one year after Blade Runner had been released). The towers present in the poster look very advanced to represent any tower that existed at that time, and the flying vehicle also shows that the movie is set in the future. The colour pallet mainly consists of yellows, reds, and splashes of blue, these colours are common in action/science fiction movies. The tense expression on Harrison Ford's face along with the strange gun in his hand shows that throughout the movie there will be moments of stress, a feeling that is synonymous with action movies.

I believe that the movie is targeted towards men around 16-35 years old, that's mainly due to the action/Science fiction nature of the film meaning that there will be scenes of intense action and strong language.

Scary Movie 2 (2001)
At first glance, the movie portrays a comedic/parody feeling due to a few reasons. First being that within the frame there are some characters mocking a few iconic, well-known horror figures (e.g. Hannibal Lector and pazuzu from The Exorcist). Not only that but on the shirts of two of the females within the frame they have very comedic prints. Second, at the top of the frame in a yellow font are the words "Absolutely Hilarious", these words are seldom used when talking about a horror movie, this indicates that this is, in fact, a parody. Third, the movie title is shown at the bottom in a large red font, that although states that this is a horror movie, ironically shows the viewers that this movie may in fact not be scary at all and that it is a parody. fourth, the main figures within the frame have over the top expressions, something that generally isn't used when trying to create the poster for a horror movie.

I believe that the movie is targeted towards 16-30 year-olds due to the parody nature of the film, it may have jokes to inappropriate for children under the age of 16.

Uzak (2004)
This movie poster from what I can tell is not English and is most likely of Turkish origins due to the title being Turkish, from the dark colour pallet and the ominous feeling from the background setting, I would say that the movie is a dramatic thriller based on the life experience of the figure in the middle of the frame. The cold setting along with the frozen lake already sets up an atmosphere of cold/bleakness. A trend that may occur often in the movie in both a literal and metaphorical form due to the dark atmosphere the image portrays.

I believe that the movie might be targeted towards more mature audiences at the age group around 20-40 year-old's
I'm Not Scared (2003)
At first glance of the movie poster, it seems to me that it may be a coming of age thriller/mystery movie about a young child. The low angle shot making the main figure look at the camera from above creates a feeling of loss or searching. The Italian words within the frames suggests that the movie is Italian. The title suggests that the movie could be about the main character trying to face his fear from a threat or belief.

I believe that the movie is targeted towards 15-40 year old's.

Sin City (2005)
From first glance, the movie appears to be an action/noir movie due to multiple reasons. First, the colour pallet is full of greys and blacks, this alone creates a serious tone, a feeling that is often prevalent in action movies due to the fast-paced action scenes. Second, due to the fact that almost every figure in the frame are carrying weapons, it suggests that the movie will contain a slew of fast-paced action scenes. The title alone provides insight into what the movie might be about or what the main focus of the movie will be on, when using words "sin city" the viewer gets a feeling of wrong or taboo, this could mean that the movie heavily focuses on illegal activity.

Due to the action nature of the image and the dark colour pallet, I would say that the movie's age demographic is around 18-20. This mainly due to the possibility of nudity and heavy action in the movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Mans Chest (2006)
With the obvious pirate imagery in the frame, its evident that the movie is an adventure/action epic. The movie's title suggests that the movie takes place around the Caribbean during the 1700's. The subtitle "Dead Mans Chest" supports the idea that the movie's main plot revolves around the location of a chest and the journey looking for that chest. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Kiera Knightly are all very established and well-known actors, this alone tells the viewers that the movie is a highly produced movie from an established producing company (in this case it's Disney). The image of a squid-like creature destroying a ship supports the idea that the movie has mythological tones to it as well, these tones also support that the movie is, in fact, a fictional movie with elements of non-fiction.

I believe that the movie's is targeting families

Bride and Prejudice (2004)
From first glance you get the feeling of romance but also comedy leading the audience to believe that the movie is a romantic comedy. At the very top of the poster, it is mentioned that this movie was also created by the director of "Bend it like Beckham" since the director is known for creating comedic movies, it's obvious to presume that this movie is the same. The title its self is a parody of the book Jane Austen had written called "Pride and Prejudice", this alone gives the movie a comedic feel. The way the main figures are standing in the middle shows that the main focus of the movie will be around their lives and their journey into love. The background figures are split into two, on the left-hand side there are western males and females celebrating, whilst on the right, there are Indian males and females celebrating, this may hint at the there is a unifying of two cultures within the movie.

I would say that this movie is targeted towards families of an age range around 9-30-year-olds due to jolly image the picture shows

 Million Dollar Baby (2005)
The three figures within the movie are all in dramatic poses with low-key lighting, this imagery gives the viewer the idea that the movie is surrounded by a very serious tone hinting at the fact that this might be an action movie. The female figure within the frame is wearing clothing a sports bra, this indicates that the movie's plot may have a sporting element.

I believe that the target audience would be 18 years old and above
